Striim and the Future of Streaming Data and Analytics

striim_logo.jpgAs tends to be the case in technology, things change quickly, and Striim (formerly WebAction) is no exception to the fast-paced nature of the industry. After undergoing a recent rebranding, the company is in full swing promoting their unique platform for real-time data streaming and analytics.

We recently had the opportunity to chat with Sami Akbay, Executive Vice President at Striim, about all the changes the company has undergone and what it has in store for its future.

Formerly known as WebAction, Striim was founded in 2012, but prior to the founding of WebAction, they were certainly not new to the NonStop space. Founded by some of the core leaders of GoldenGate Software (which was acquired by Oracle in 2009), including CEO, Ali Kutay. Sami used to run product management and marketing for GoldenGate before it was acquired by Oracle. “We are definitely not new to the software industry, nor to the NonStop, and we are happy to be able to bring our experience to help other companies get the most out of not only their NonStop server’s capabilities, but to also have a better understanding of their data,” Sami says.

So, why change the name to Striim after a long and successful history in the NonStop space? “We got a lot of feedback from people who said that the name of the company didn’t do a very good job of describing what we had to offer, which is a really unique platform. We took some time, did market research, and decided that the name Striim (pronounced “stream”) would be an interesting way to describe what we did,” Sami explains. “In our name, the first ‘i’ stands for ‘integration’. Our platform takes large amounts of data from multiple sources and can deliver them to many types of systems extremely quickly. The second ‘i’ stands for ‘intelligence’.”

sami_headshot.jpgAs far as making it easier to understand the basis of the Striim platform, the new name certainly does a good job of that. Sriim specializes in streaming data integration and analytics in real time, which helps the user make sense of large amounts of data as it is created, and also helps them organize it in ways that are useful to their company. The product processes data from many sources and makes sense of it in real time, then it retains only the information that is interesting to the end-user, as defined by the user. The volume of data that most companies have access to is very large, but there is only a small amount that is useful. The Striim product finds that useful information and puts it back onto the NonStop by uniquely combining both streaming integration and streaming intelligence in a single platform.

Customers in the HPE NonStop space will be happy to know that the name change was just that – a name change. As far as the product it has remained the same, steadfast and unique product it has always been.

“Our core Striim Platform focuses on improving how companies collect and use their streaming data, and that has stayed the same since we changed the name,” says Sami. “Striim helps companies leverage a wide variety of different types of streaming and operational data the instant it’s generated, before it lands on disk. From transaction/change data from Oracle, MySQL and HPE NonStop, to log files, social streams, senor data, and much more.”

NonStop is all about real time, and that is what Striim is all about. As technology continues to progress, having access to data and being able to process and understand all of it immediately will only continue to get more and more important. Striim continues to be at the forefront of this technology, and that will only continue to progress in the future.
