This year we were excited to attend HPE NonStop Technical Boot Camp with Ernie Guerrera, President, Dave Belliveau, and Gabrielle Guerrera, and with over 400 people in attendance it proved to be one of the best of the year!
Sunday was an education day and the Beer Bust. Monday night we went to TBC Pub Night at Gordon Biersch and then hosted our annual customer dinner, alongside our friends at Tributary Systems. But it was the keynote speech given by Martin Fink, CTO and Director of HPE Labs, on Monday that everyone was waiting for.
Martin’s research team at HP Labs, the company’s exploratory and advanced research group, is responsible for anticipating IT trends to address the complex issues that will face our customers and society over the next decades. Working closely with HPE’s strategy teams and the business group research and development teams, Martin is focused on commercializing the company’s intellectual property to drive and accelerate the innovation agenda for the company.
"For me, as a longtime member of this community and like a lot of you a long time attendees of this annual event, this year was one that surpassed our engagement expectations at all levels. Martin Fink’s keynote presentation gave a detailed biography of significant and specific challenges and decisions that were paramount in the path from Tandem to NonStop X, and the exciting door to tomorrow. It was a terrific walk down memory lane from a participant’s view rather than an observer’s. The speech was authentic, insightful, and informative."
Gabrielle Guerrera, Director of Business Development at NuWave, Dave Belliveau, Senior Software Architect at NuWave, and Damian Ward of Vocalink in the UK presented "Modernization through Integration". Gabrielle spoke at a high level about what application modernization is, how to integrate NonStop with other platforms using middleware, and the different kinds of technology and solutions that are available for NonStop. Dave talked about the technical side of NuWave's latest product, LightWave ServerTM, which uses JSON Web services to send data stored on NonStop to other platforms. Damian demonstrated how he used LightWave ServerTM to integrate NonStop with the computer game Minecraft, displaying 3D renderings of NonStop CPU status in the ocean near Alcatraz!
On Tuesday, Randy Meyer, VP & GM of Mission Critical Systems at HPE, and Andy Bergholz, NonStop Director of Engineering at HPE, presented the general session. Randy talked about the Always-On Enterprise, and Andy announced that the next big thing in NonStop is NSaaS (NonStop-as-a-Service). Watch a clip of this presentation below!
Randy Meyer leads the Product Management, Strategy and Technology team for the NonStop Enterprise organization within HPE. His team drives the overall strategic direction for the NonStop product family, works with enterprise customers and partners to architect, integrate and test solutions that take advantage of HPE NonStop servers, and provides technical education to field support staff. With more than 25 years of experience in the computer industry, Meyer has held a variety of technical, financial management, product management and marketing management roles. He originally joined Tandem Computers in 1986 in product management and returned to the company in 1997. Among other positions in the start-up world, he was vice president of business development for NetFRAME Systems, a high-end network server manufacturer. Meyer holds a Bachelor of Science in economics and a Bachelor of Arts in computer science from the University of Minnesota, and a Master of Business Administration from Cornell University.
From a vendor perspective, the level of interest in our connectivity products and new products offerings was exceptional and validated our production direction.
We had a very successful event and it was great to connect with many of our customers, partners, and friends. We were excited to give away a $100 Visa gift card for our Passport to Prizes as well to attendees.
